TXI Employee Honored with Safety Award

Frances Petty, Manager of TXI Manufacturing Resources Wins Distinguished Health and Safety Achievement Award

Dallas, Texas - December 2, 2008 - Texas Industries, Inc. (NYSE - TXI) announced today that Francis Petty was awarded the Distinguished Health and Safety Achievement Award at the annual meeting of the Western Region Joint Mine Conference held in Denver, Colorado. Francis Petty is the Manager of TXI Manufacturing Resources for TXI's Cement Division. In her position, she oversees the Cement Division's Mine Safety Program.

"Over her 48 years with TXI, Frances has been involved in many facets of the company, but none as important as our safety program," stated J. Lynn Davis, TXI Vice President Cement. "We are very fortunate to have a person of her knowledge and commitment involved in TXI's safety efforts."

This annual award is given to the person in the mining industry who has exhibited leadership in promoting health and safety within the industry. Steve Minshall of Holcim presented the award to Mrs. Petty on behalf of the Conference Committee.
